"Pointedly political and totally effective was Queeropolis, made by NOW cover girl Tori Foster with Alexis Mitchell, where a map of Toronto fills up with dots representing the hundreds of queer organizations that have existed through the city's history while various queer veterans talk about their past experiences. " - NOW
Queeropolis charts the queer, urban fabric of Toronto from 1972-2008—a formative period of claiming public space for the queer community. The oral narratives of John Greyson, Jane Farrow, Keith Cole, and others, are set against an animated mapping of Toronto 's queer spaces. The piece effectively fuses personal histories with social spaces to illustrate a trajectory of queer experience and resistance in Toronto over this 36 year period. |
